@cian you are completely right. But the question is: how did we arrive here? If students were going to Universities to learn new competences, to fulfill their dreams, to think, to feed their potential, they would not use generative products to solve their homework. But that is not what is happening. We (the profs., the government, the society) created in the last decades small mind people. Most students go to university to get a degree, not to empower themselves. We created a system based on memorisation and exams. What do we expect?
If the society promised you that you would get a better life going every day to the gym and lift some weights, wouldn't you use a robot to do it? What about if the society showed you healthy life styles? And how is important for your health to make a sport? In that case, would you send the robot or do it by yourself ?

I understand the next hours and days will be the peak of the current wave to the Fediverse (unless it causes a tipping point already).
So I want to offer my help to everybody who is new here.
I can help you with:
* finding the right instance (if you're not sure you found it)
* understanding how it all works
* editing your profile and settings
* finding your bubble
* helping others find you
* finding answers to further questions
I can help you by:
* replying publicly
* replying via DM
* videocall & screensharing (one on one or in groups)
* finding others who can answer the questions that I can't
This offer goes to:
* everybody (except trolls)
* not just people on one of our (Fediverse Foundation) instances
* not just people in the climatejustice movement
* not just people using Mastodon (though I don't have experience with all software flavors)
* not even only new people
I speak English and German.

So in the #USA they "recruit" prisonners as firefighters. For.. $5 - $10 a day!?! To risk their lives? Isn't that slave labour?
But don't worry, they get.. an additional $1 a day when on active duty 🤦🤦🤦

California has rejected a ballot measure that would have amended the state constitution to ban forced prison labor. The state constitution already prohibits so-called involuntary servitude, but an exception allows it to be used as a punishment for crime. Other states have approved similar initiatives in recent years. That includes a measure passed in Nevada this month. The goal was to combat a practice under which prisoners are often paid less than $1 an hour for labor such as fighting fires, cleaning cells and doing landscaping at cemeteries. The California measure was part of a package of reparations proposals that was introduced by lawmakers this year.
