"In February, police in Claremore, Oklahoma arrested farmer Darren Blanchard for speaking a little too long during a community meeting about data centers. The city charged Blanchard with criminal trespass, a crime with a $200 penalty, but he’s vowed to fight the charge. He recently shared video of the bodycam footage for the first time with 404 Media"

This is insane. Cops are being used as weapons to keep the power of corpos upright.

When returning your work laptop, don't forget to leave IT a little stroopwafel... as a treat!

"Beginning next week, most Australians get free electricity for three hours every afternoon. That's what happens when you build out wind, sun, and batteries

As the cost of clean energy keeps plummeting, it gets more and more obvious how much money we waste, and how much financial risk we incur, by staying with fossil fuel."

🚨 Important update about my latest #WSocial article πŸ‘€

A user on #ATproto cracked the code and came up with a reasonable explanation for the made up number of comments on W Social's homepage.

The number next to the speech bubble (comment icon) are an "engagement metric": the sum of boosts and likes. It all makes sense now!

W Social, Fictional Metrics and the Beauty of Open Data

W Social's tagline is "Trust Your Feed" but the company's landing page displays inflated engagement metrics - a misrepresentation that contradicts its own promise.

At this point it's only a matter of time before companies will pay money to AI agents so that those AI agents will fix the companies other AI agents, that were vibe-coded with even more AI agents, that were made by a company that largely uses open-source software made by unpaid Human developers.

A vulnerability in ffmpeg allows remote code execution via a crafted media file https://www.securityweek.com/ffmpeg-pixelsmash-flaw-allows-rce-on-video-players-media-servers-nas-appliances/

This affects anything that would even try to generate a *thumbnail*, and that includes your file browser, your fedi server, etc etc etc.

EDIT: Replies have pointed out that ASLR needed to be disabled for the exploit to work, so it may not be quite as exploitable as the press release makes it sound. Not sure. (At least, not without many retries.) At any rate, look forward to deploying the fix.

FFmpeg PixelSmash Flaw Allows RCE on Video Players, Media Servers, NAS Appliances

PixelSmash is a vulnerability in the FFmpeg framework that can be exploited via crafted media files for remote code execution.

Bought a tower-fan ventilator last summer for a cheap price (Bought it from someone that never used it, and never opened the box for half of what the item would cost new).

This summer i can feel that it was one of the best investments i've made.

SCOOP: on #WSocial's website, comment counts for posts by prominent users are incorrectly displayed, showing artificially elevated numbers.

An ATproto user came up with an interesting theory for it.
