The same, but different? A return to power-sharing in Northern Ireland

It’s hard not to question where and when challenges might arise that could trigger the next political crisis in Northern Ireland when the process of stop-start politics has become a perverse norm of governance here. Has anything changed this time around, and what does it mean for the future of power-sharing?

After a day of public sector strikes, and the deadline for calling a new election now passed, the SoS for #NorthernIreland had outlined his next steps: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/secretary-of-states-statement-on-the-ni-executive-formation-deadline

Meanwhile, we understand that the #DUP's leadership is meeting today with a view to reaching a final decision on a return to #Stormont

After almost 2 years, this feels as close as the situation can get to a conclusion. But rooted largely in #Brexit, the issues are not going to easily dissipate in any case
