It’s hard to justify Tahoe icons

Looking at the first principles of icon design—and how Apple failed to apply all of them in macOS Tahoe

@stroughtonsmith I guess it depends on your mastodon instance? It makes me curious if each federated instance gets its own copy of the video and re-encodes it.

Honestly I’m probably more surprised if supports video at all. Bandwidth and compute for reencoding isn’t cheap.

@stroughtonsmith I can’t tell if it’s just compression on this platform but doesn’t the resolution seem low? Either the video is compressed down on their doing some crazy up scaling to maintain that frame rate.

@christianselig I’ve had the best luck with the Claude models. Claude 4.5 Sonnet most recently.

They seem really good at tool use, and I just set up cursor rules for each project, basically telling it where to find tests, where things should go, coding conventions, etc.

I’ve had bad luck with the Gemini models last time I tried them and haven’t tried GPT 5 yet

@christianselig Cursor always previews you the suggestions and presents you a diff view.

@simsaens on my 17 pro max I can use portrait on 1x, 2x, and 4x.

Cinematic is only 1x and 2x though, 3x is there but seems to be a crop of 2x?

@paul I got tired of waiting and just got a couple Apple Studio Displays. They’re great (upgrading from some old dell P2715q screens)
@simsaens I like the first one better (probably because it feels unique), but the second one is definitely more standard to what I’ve seen in discord/slack/other apps where I’ve seen this)

@stroughtonsmith feels like an iPhone X moment.

The compromise there at the time was the lack of TouchID (and the first generation touchID sensor was way worse the current ones) and slightly worse battery life than the 8+ IIRC.
