Did they deliver on the promises? (hint: of course not, cars can't get out of their own way)

"Shiny animation won't take you to work. Actual working efficient transit systems will. And gadgetbahns just aren't that."

Wow, the NYT is getting spicy. I love it!

In DC: 14th St, Warf Street SW, Swann St NW, and Barracks Row SE, Beach Drive (when it is open for people walking and biking). But I really love a bunch of alleys even more like Williams Alley near 11th NW.

In NOLA: Magazine, Royal, Dumaine, Esplanade, Frenchman...and many more.

@jiva Good one! You should draw that cartoon. It would be great satire on how American safety regulators miss the point completely.
@M0YNG Like saying: American approach to auto safety?

Here’s the thing — If you HAVE to drive, or even just WANT to drive, it’s in your best interest for public transit, walking & biking to be as attractive as possible to EVERYONE else. It means everyone else can take up a lot less space to move.

If everybody drives, nobody moves.

So you know that NYT article that showcases American exceptionalism when it comes to Road 💀? And people were wondering what was up with Switzerland? We’ll it’s just as hilarious as you would imagine. Apparently the Swiss had an exceptionally untragic year in 2019, so when things went back to normal in 2020 it seemed crazy. No…we’re the only crazy ones. American road deaths are nearly 5x the rate of Swiss road deaths.
H/T @notjustbikes followers who noted the historical trend.
@BrentToderian And this is what we should expect from AVs too.

Never forget, when you’re being pressured to prove that safe bike-lanes or pedestrian crossings across fundamentally unsafe conditions are ‘needed,’ it's hard to justify a bridge by the number of people swimming across a raging, crocodile-filled river.
