@alice @tulsa thanks for the link. the article says they exude hemolymph, which is the insect analog for our blood. so basically, when threatened they start bleeding and their blood is poisonous... wtf... these things get weirder and weirder the more one learns about them
@alice @tulsa that's an oil beetle also known as blister beetle. they ooze a caustic liquid from their joints when threatened. that's why it came towards you. it knows you're gonna have a really bad time whe you touch it. granted, i don't think shoes were invented yet when this behavior evolved. not that i advocate to kill those beautiful hexapodic badasses, not at all.
@endospore nice! thx
@talpa I need to do some research on this myself. I got this itch in my fingers now...
@talpa oh also the panic codes mostly don't help me on anything microcontroller adjacent, so they would probably be thrown out pretty quickly, especially in release builds.
@talpa still big. would be interesting if this is basically a static overhead and the scaling is similar to C. that would be totally ok for me then, if I get those sweet, sweet compile-time guarantees. i also must say i would trade some scaling for language, library and tooling ergonomics.
@endospore thanks for the link! i looked at the man page for rustc (a version i found on the web at least) and it didn't have those. very handy!

#intro

Hi! I'm an austrian hobby musician, as well as a nature and (cautious) tech nerd. In general I don't like boxes for my #music (active and passive) or any of my other passions and I seek the overlap. I play many instruments, sing and do beatboxing. I also like #drawing.
I work as #embedded dev and also do some #DevOps stuff. I don't have CS background, but I try to have an architect's view on software dev and keep up-to-date with new #programming tech and best pratices.

@talpa is there no equivalent of -Os in rustc? As an embedded dev using mostly C++ currently eyeing rust from afar, i'm genuinly curious. I looked at rustc flags and didn't find one.
@bloody_albatross Das ist ein Kiebitz. Eindeutig.
