"Economic growth is still heating the planet. Is there any way out?" "Rising GDP continues to mean more carbon emissions and wider damage to the planet. Can the two be decoupled?"

Note comparison of 'Green Capitalists', 'Green Keynesians' and 'Post-growth' views made in this article. 'Green tech' combined with perpetual consumption growth, only slows the disaster. Free today 7 Oct PDT 'An Economy of Want': a re-write of macroeconomics 'as if people and the planet mattered' … borrowing from Schumacher's 'Small is Beautiful' subtitle. Schumacher's book advocates for an economy that prioritizes human well-being, ethical values, and environmental sustainability over unchecked growth and materialism. Mine aims to explain WHY our economy is driven in the opposite direction to that Schumacher advocated and many of us would wish. Details https://sites.google.com/view/economyofwant

@prau Thanks for the comment and suggestions. As my preface explains, I'm an engineer not an economist, and have followed the style of an engineering text book, citing only what is directly relevant to what I have written. I agree that by contrast, traditional economics texts contain many citations of previous works - sometimes several a page. I feel that the two works you mention, being of the Austrian School, have some overlap with neo-liberal views, which I do cover.

The first six chapters of 'An Economy of Want' are now on the web, here: http://openengineering.scienceontheweb.net/EconOfWant.html There's an overview, or just dive in!

Economics primer based firmly in the natural world ... for those familiar with mainstream economics also interested in alternative analyses, or anyone new to economics who wants an approachable introduction.

Green Party peer Jenny Jones has told the Glastonbury Festival’s Speakers Forum that she will vote against proscribing Palestine Action if the order reaches the House of Lords.

Jenny said: “I’ve worked on policing issues, civil liberties and protests for more than 25 years, and I know very clearly, very well, that what the government is doing to Palestine Action is not a legal act. They are not a terrorist organisation and, to be honest, if the government proscribes them, there’s going to be an outcry. It is bizarre, because it almost looks as if the government is frightened of protest. I mean, that’s something that I’ve seen with the Conservative government, but now with the Labour government, we’re seeing it as well. They actually don’t like opposition of any sort, and that’s not democracy, and what they are planning to do is not democratic.”

The first thing I bought on eBay was a Stanley plough plane. So satisfying to cut grooves and rebates. Ive never used a power router.
My grandfather's panel saw, about 115 years old, has a new handle I made from an old shelf during lockdown. I sharpen it with a saw set (also from eBay) and a file. Such a comfortable tool to use. Unlike the disposable ones with plastic handles you see now.
Tip: use a candle to lubricate the blade.
