@scottrichmond "The Palestinians" were responsible for an "invasion" of Israel in roughly the same sense as "the Muslims" were responsible for an "invasion" of the United States on September 11th, 2001. The four million innocent civilians killed, maimed or displaced in the Middle East by a US-led coalition of Western governments in the ensuing (and largely bogus) "War on Terror", did not deserve to be bombed back to the Stone Age. Many of them were also victims of Wahabi-Salafist brutality.
If you're looking for people to blame, advocate for finding the actual perpetrators and their enablers, and bringing them to justice. Otherwise you're no better than the terrorists, simply exploiting cultural and ethnic divisions for your own ideological or political gain.
My country has been subject to a decades-long terrorist bombing campaign by the Irish Republican Army (IRA). While it's true that the British security forces in Northern Ireland, in collusion with the loyalist paramilitaries, murdered hundreds of Republicans, we haven't yet sent war planes into Ireland to flatten Belfast or Dublin - and "the English" don't blame "the Irish" for the actions of a small group of extremists. Sad news about Matthew Perry, 54 is no age to go.
I read his memoir, not because I was a particular fan of his, but mainly because I worked supporting adults with addiction problems, and so had a professional interest in his story.
Now's not the time for criticism, so I'll just say that he came across as a desperately unhappy person who craved attention and adulation, but seemed to be on the right track to finding some peace and tranquility in his life.
So RIP Mr. Perry, and thanks for all the laughs. Millions will miss you.
"On 15 October 2023, over 800 scholars and practitioners of international law, conflict studies and genocide studies signed a public statement warning of the possibility of genocide being perpetrated by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Signatories include prominent Holocaust and genocide studies scholars, as well as many international law and TWAIL scholars. The text of the statement and list of signatures (updated on 20 October 2023) is below, and a pdf version can be accessed here."
*"As scholars and practitioners of international law, conflict studies, and genocide studies, we are compelled to sound the alarm about the possibility of the crime of genocide being perpetrated by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip," reads the statement. "We do not do so lightly, recognizing the weight of this crime, but the gravity of the current situation demands it."*

Just really would prefer zero genocide and zero mass murders and zero disabling viruses running rampant.
There are events going on in the world which under normal circumstances I'd be commenting on, but unfortunately this server is close to unusable at the moment, and has been for months with no end in sight. I'm reluctant to start controversial discussions that I then won't be able to engage in. As things stand, it's hit-and-miss whether I'll even receive your notifications or be able to see your replies.
As I've just started a new and challenging job, my focus really needs to be on that, rather than on global affairs over which I have no real control.
I hate Guns N' Roses. I hate them for three reasons (the second making more sense of the first, the third contextualising the others).
The first reason I hate Gun N' Roses, is that they're objectively among the greatest rock bands of all time. There's no denying it, their musicianship and songwriting are extraordinary. They deserve, and have earned their place in the Hall of Fame.
So why would that be a reason to hate them, Paul? Because on the original release of Appetite for Destruction, there was a track called One in a Million, in which Axl ranted about "n***ers", "f**gots" and "immigrants", whom he accused of "spreading some fucking disease".
It reached second place in the US music charts, which says a lot about America.
It also led to a long-running fued between Axl Rose and the late Kurt Cobain, a fued music journos somehow managed to cover without actually quoting Axl or explaining why Kurt was so opposed to Axl's band.
And that's the third reason I hate Guns N' Roses.
That scam never ended. Today, we're sold carbon offsets, a modern Papal indulgence. We are told that if we pay the finance sector, they can absolve us for our climate sins. Carbon offsets are a scam, a market for lemons. The "offset" you buy might be a generated by a fake charity like the Nature Conservancy, who use well-intentioned donations to buy up wildlife reserves that *can't* be logged, which are then converted into carbon credits by promising not to log them
