Modern day grave robbers are using emojis and codewords to secretly trade real human bones

The trade is flourishing online, experts say, as bone collectors exploit legal loopholes to buy and sell human remains

I said it before and I'll say it again:

"AI model learns, therefore it is intelligent" is like saying "computer programs run, therefore they have legs."

Metaphors like "program runs" or "model learns" are useful, but are just that: metaphors.

Drawing conclusions on their basis is folly.

Keep that in mind next time AI-hypers try to draw equivalences between a child going to a museum and then making their own art, and a LLM gobbling up terabytes of text and then generating word salad.

Make that 30 minutes over schedule and technical issues
(I'm chill, I swear! 😅)
Attending conferences organised by the French is excellent cognitive behavioural therapy for my Swedish control issues. First part of the agenda and we're already 20 min over schedule.
I'm serious, I've learnt to chill and not fret unnecessarily.
Que sera, sera
I love hedgehogs! 🥰
I'm a big fan of both George RR Martin and Brandon Sanderson as Fantasy writers and story tellers, but I generally think Martin is the better wordsmith.
There are however some passages of Sanderson's that genuinely take my breath away.
None more so than this one. 💔

Furthermore, I consider "metrics" to need to be destroyed.

Open Science "Dynamic Convergence" Workshop: Expression of Interest

The Open Science “Dynamic Convergence” Workshop will take place on September 18-19 in Washington, DC (USA). The event is hosted by the Open Research Community Accelerator (ORCA), in collaboration with CERN and UNESCO, with the participation of NASA and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The workshop will bring together researchers, students, policymakers, funders, and other stakeholders to highlight impactful open science activities, explore collaboration opportunities, and find practical ways to speed up the global adoption of open science. More information about the program and logistics will be shared shortly. We aim to bring together an inclusive mix of participants spanning geographies, career stages, and disciplines. Thanks to generous support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the Templeton World Charity Foundation, we are able to subsidize travel costs to eligible applicants. Please use this form to express your interest in participating in the workshop before July 31. Successful applicants will be notified by August 6.

The Solar eclipse as seen from my home in Reykjavík, Iceland.

If you look closely you can see a sunspot close to the centre of the sun.

Taken with a Canon 77D, 400mm lens with a Seymour Solar filter at the front of it.

I kinda want to become an eclipse chaser now. Here's another photo I took during today's total solar eclipse.
