A letter from 1903 and the latter stages of the Penrhyn quarry 'Great Strike', which lasted three years and led to terrible circumstances for workers.

The vastly wealthy Lord Penrhyn reinvested profits from the Atlantic slave trade into developing his slate quarry in north Wales - that lay on common ground he used his influence to acquire.

The second Lord Penrhyn was very thin-skinned and unforgiving, punishing even the slightest dissent very harshly.
