What (if any) aspects do folks think are different/unique between #opensource projects coming out of #highered and projects originating in corporate, government, or traditional (user-based) communities? Specifically around (1) motivations for starting the projects, (2) success criteria, (3) sustainability, (4) funding, etc.

All/any thoughts/rants/ideas/critiques welcome.
