@mwl @lizmonster All of this. So much of this. Indie publishing is badly harmed by all the (uninformed) people shouting GET RID OF GATEKEEPERS AND JUST SELF-PUB. Trad and indie are different methods. They have different pros and cons, and often different markets.
Each is a valid way to publish and requires research and taking it seriously. #Publishing is a business, no matter which route you take.
Right now, my plan is trad. It's a deliberate choice, but both absolutely have their reasons.
I am beginning to think I made a mistake, signing up for an intersession (and so 4-week) language class while trying to revise my #RomanticSuspense and while drafting my #EpicFantasy . On the other hand, this was THE class to take intersession, since I have been conversational in another romance language (20 years ago), and it means my next language class will be normal semester length.
Oh, and while working and parenting. Whoops. But it gives me better reason to hide from #editing !
@jtmusson This is really interesting and well-written. A flat-out apology, along with pointing out the difference between constructive criticism and shouting. But also, an explanation of just how easy the Fediverse is to being scraped, as well as opening a conversation on how to prevent privacy concerns from being overwhelmed.
He's right. It's easy to do. The challenge of the Fediverse is the range of moderation policies and the ease of entry. A bad actor can do a lot before being stopped.
@supakaity @nerdybutcute @e_urq @yassie_j @SimonT The GOP is going for abortion pills already. They've found a way to make them illegal for at least a decade - and found their judge for the suit.
This is just the start, and it's terrifying. Next up is fetal personhood.
Trans women, infertile women, women who've chosen sterilization - we're not 'real' women. We're not supposed to have opinions on their assaults. An attack on one is an attack on all of us.
@bookishbrews Yeah. Somehow, it just so happens that the two most crapped on genres are...
#Romance (80% female readership) and #YoungAdult (75% female readership). Oh, and that female authors with female MCs were often pushed into YA rather than adult (thriller, fantasy, etc), though at least in fantasy that's changed over the last 5-10 years.
Funny, that. Esp as most people who crap on the genres know almost nothing about them, but are comfortable explaining why they're not 'real' #writing
@CNN Adding onto this - whether it's because the servicemember is overseas and their children aren't, or because the servicemember's single and overseas - this time of year is hard for those #ActiveDuty #military who don't have family with them and can't afford the flight home.
Whether you're #AirForce #Army #Marine #Navy or #SpaceForce , I hope your unit's looking out for you and your family - and if you can, you're part of that unit looking out for your people away from home.
@KingShawn @clickhere I spent a decade hating Christmas. It was a time of stress and needing to perform, of pinprick insults and passive-aggressive dismissal of what mattered to me.
It took six years after getting out of that marriage to start maybe liking Christmas. You have my sympathies and my company, and I'll hope your coming year is warmer than the one that's falling behind us.
