@daringfireball @gruber best example of useful URL scheme I’ve seen, a bank here in the UK called Monzo.

If I wanted to request money from you I’d send you the following link Monzo dot me slash alexbrooks slash amount.

From there you just Apple Pay me money. Not needed if other person banks with Monzo as can send in app but for externals, incredibly useful.

@marcintosh @siracusa that’s the least Apple thing to do. Plus marketing is not tech, it’s marketing.
Apple is aggressively pushing OSes 26.2, I’d like to not install on my Intel Mac, I’d also like to free up the 10GB of space the download is taking up. But where is it? I’ve checked everywhere logical. Any ideas @siracusa?
@viticci what’s the daily notes workflow? Have you written that up anywhere?
@caseyliss in previous years I’ve done iPhone to iPhone transfers and lost my TestFlight apps. Did an iCloud restore this year and had App Store versions on boot. So that sounds like the difference #askatp
@caseyliss my logical mind agrees with you, but last year a cable device-to-device transfer took literally three hours. So makes me nervous.

What’s the going consensus on setting up new iPhones these days?

I want to walk out of the Apple Store with a brand new working phone tomorrow, but last year a device-to-device transfer took several hours, during which time I couldn’t use either phone. And even after that it wants to download apps.

So is restore from iCloud backup the best option? What are the downsides?

(Asked this on Threads and being mansplained about data transfer speeds)

@Adam Man is from the future!
@chartier never works, and has never worked in my experience. iCloud to iCloud fine, iCloud to anything else is either a complete fail or patchy. I run a gmail account just for event invites.

Yet to give it a go, but this looks like a reasonable answer to the question of how to backup iCloud Drive and iCloud Photos without having to store the whole thing locally.
