The Scratch AI code generator is the stupidest thing I have ever seen AI used for. Let's teach kids how to not code??!! What's the point of that?

@UpCloud Hey, what's UpCloud?
Are you looking for interns?

if you're an EU citizen please vote for the petition to ban conversion therapy in the EU https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/

its very close (19,000 left) despite looking like it was never gonna make it and its down to the wire. if you use the form method all you gotta do is put in your name and address. takes 2 minutes (maybe 4 cause the site is slow atm)

please πŸ™

edit: the info required changes depending on what country you're from but if you're dutch like me the form method is super quick and easy

If you're an EU citizen, I URGE you to sign this petition for banning conversion therapy. Conversion therapy does not work, and only serves to traumatize the people put through it. It is literally torture. Please add your signature: https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/

We have few hours left before it strikes midnight CET.

STOP CONVERSION THERAPIES IN EUROPE

Europe is running a vote for banning conversion therapies, which would save countless youth from life long trauma caused by religious freaks.

Every signature counts! Please boost!

ACT is a French Association fighting for a ban on Conversion Therapy in the European Union.

and yes i dragged my feet a bit on signing this, it seemed hard (but it was super easy if you use the form method) and i figured boosting it to thousands of people was more effective than my one vote

but i did sign it now!!

if you wanna keep up with the petition's progress but not overload the server here's a handy link for ya https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/api/report/progression

πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰

keep signing though. it must have a million *valid* signatures, and some percentage is always found to be invalid, so we should ensure the petition has enough wiggle room

@eniko We did it?? WE DID IT!!! πŸŽ‰β πŸŽŠ
@eniko ahh, i was wondering if the server had been hugged to death when i couldn't open the website to check the progress, this is great news :)
@socksinspace the api is a lot more lightweight for keeping tabs on the vote count https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/api/report/progression
@eniko Well, the API server seems also to be under strain. I am checking every 5 minutes, and it happens I am getting 'curl: (56) Recv failure: Connection reset by peer'.
@eniko even that one is slow LOL
@eniko There's something to be said about the fact that merely reaching the minimum threshold to be considered can bring the EU's server to its knees.

@ryan yeahhhh they probably didn't anticipate that all of the votes would come in near the end of the campaign but tbh they *should have*

(once again reminded of "gamedevs coulda told them this if anyone ever listened to gamedevs")

@eniko

maybe our next petition should ban "Transfer-Encoding: chunked" when serving small amounts of JSON from government pages

also I'm curious what this "Europa" webserver is!

@eniko Same. I used the e-ID way, and it was very straightforward. Anyway, at this moment 30k of voices is missing.

@agturcz @eniko missing only 25k now

i think it might actually pass

@eniko Do they send you a confirmation email? I don't remember whether I signed it already when it was making the rounds on Mastodon the first time, and there's a checkbox asking about this before I even identify myself.
@mgedmin they do not unless you asked them to after signing. if you are using some kind of national identifier to sign it it will tell you if you've already signed it though, or at least that's what happened to someone else i know from a non-netherlands country
@eniko my experience with the eID signature the last time I did something like that was painful, so I was afraid to use it this time, but it was actually pretty smooth this time. But I did it before the server load grew too much (in contrast to last time), so that might have been a factor.
@eniko kind of same actually, but I thought I had signed it before, only to discover a hour ago I actually didn't
@eniko gahhhh wish i could sign this too πŸ˜“

@eniko some countries need to provide passport ID and shit, and some countries don't need an address.

basically, info needed to provide is different

@navi oh that sucks :/

@eniko yeah.

luckily i know my passport number by memory and I had signed this a year ago

@eniko @navi I'm in Slovenia, and I just sign these petitions with my state-issued certificate (which lives on my id card nowadays). Very similar to interacting with other state stuff online.

@jernej__s @eniko at time of signature, my state-issued signature bullshit did not work.

I hear it works now

@eniko I'm out of the loop and not in eu. What is conversion therapy?
@Reshirams_Rad_Slam its where they try to "cure" being lgbt through torture
@eniko was the 38k accurate at the time of writing the toot?! did it really get 8k signatures in 10 minute?!?!
@cait it was accurate as of like half an hour ago yeah!
@eniko that's wild. I hope people aren't double signing it and stuff
@cait @eniko can't double-sign because signatures are certified with your local digital ID (though that happens through a different procedure depending on the country).
@gabrielesvelto @cait I'm Dutch and I didn't need to use digid, I just had to fill in first names, last name, and address
@eniko @gabrielesvelto same for Ireland
@cait @eniko I'm rather shocked that my exceptionally backwards country would require a digital signature but neither the Netherlands nor Ireland do πŸ˜…
@gabrielesvelto @eniko It helps that Ireland doesn't have an eIDAS-based system yet
@gabrielesvelto @cait @eniko Well, that's because Ireland doesn't have any mandatory ID cards to begin with.
@eniko @cait no DigID? That's odd, I wonder how they do it then

@gabrielesvelto @cait its not actually mandatory to have a digid in the Netherlands, and if you live abroad

1. it's not super useful
2. it expires
3. it used to be extremely uncool to get a new one cause it required an embassy trip, which in the US would've been a flight to washington DC and in cyprus is a 300 euro cab ride. they've made it less absurd since, though, i think

@eniko @cait I see... I've got both a Dutch DigID and the Italian SPID mostly because they save me from a lot of trips to offices in both countries. The Italian version used to be really annoying to obtain, but now it can be done entirely from home with video identification. I wonder how long that will last in the age of IA-faked videos.
@eniko FYI, what you need to put in depends on your country of residence. Here in Denmark you need to verify using a national ID app
@kanongil oh that sucks :/
@eniko It works (mostly) fine for us, as we already use the app more or less daily for public services and banking
@eniko i'm proud of my country for once, nearly 940% of threshold
@eniko I absolutely wish I could sign this and believe in it wholeheartedly, but sadly EU residents who are third-country citizens (so, for me, a British citizen living in Portugal) can’t sign. :(
@cloudthethings yeah my partner can't sign it for the same reason, sucks :/
@eniko I wish I could. This would help people in #Norway as well, but since we're not in the #EU I can't throw my vote :(

@eniko
When the petition is done does it automatically become law (assuming enough valid signatures) or does it trigger something like a parliamentary vote?

Great seeing it seemingly pass the threshold. Wish I could sign (non-EU).

@foobarsoft the EU commission must decide whether or not they'll act on the petition, and if they don't they must record in writing *why* they won't (which, yanno, hard to do without looking pro conversion therapy)
@eniko @da_667
Oh cool, they made it!

@eniko I can't remember whether I signed this...
Does anyone know whether there is a confirmation e-mail I could search in my mailbox for (and ehat mail it is from / what it has in the topic line)?

Edit: Problem solved, when I tried to sign (again), the form told me I already signed it. x)

@fluffyfied there is no email confirmation unless you request one. if you're using some kind of national ID to sign it though, it'll probably tell you if you already signed it. at least, it did for someone else

@fluffyfied @eniko I signed so many of these that can't remember which ones I have already done.
I'm from Spain and use the form, if I try to sign one that I already did I get a message telling me that I indeed signed in the past :)

So just try to sign it ;)
