I appear in the film, and also served a scientific advisor to the production team, so I sincerely hope you find it worthwhile. The full versions is freely available on YouTube--so please share widely! #ClimateChange #Weather

The film also explores why it's so important that we find ways to rapidly increase our societal resilience to extremes--and also concepts of compound and "record-shattering" extremes (the likes of which we've seen all too often in recent months/years).

The second part of the Climate Extremes documentary has now been released! This portion of the film focuses on how extreme #weather events (like heatwaves & extreme rainfall) and their associated hazards are changing in a warming #climate. https://youtu.be/X6VCTfzl1DU

Popular chatbots serve as poor replacements for human therapists, but study authors call for nuance.

Shorter @glennklockwood : Academics care about knowledge creation and sharing, and when building computing systems tend to build them to maximize these values. Commercial enterprises care more about profits and build systems to maximize these. Are these approaches incompatible? No, but the window for overlap in #HPC and #AI for academia and hyperscale commerce was brief and may have closed. Also you have to decide how to spend your time in this world, and he is moving on. https://mast.hpc.social/@glennklockwood/114832950520089114

In the few days I have between jobs, I wanted to share an unvarnished perspective on what I've learned after spending three years working on supercomputing in the cloud. It's hastily written and lightly edited, but I hope others find it interesting: https://blog.glennklockwood.com/2025/07/lessons-learned-from-three-years-in.html #HPC

Do you remember the time when @google thought that hosting #opensource projects as a service was a good idea?

Maybe looking at #GoogleCode for good old projects, managed through #svn , bring you good old memories.

Yes you can do it.... at @swheritage archive. Check https://archive.softwareheritage.org/browse/search/?q=googlecode.com&visit_type=svn&with_content=true&with_visit=true

It is like going back in time, I know. Looking ahead, by the way.... will @GitHub live forever?

Trump Seeks to Cut Basic Scientific #Research by Roughly One-Third, Report Shows
Trump’s budget plan guts federal #science funding for the next fiscal year, according to an overview published by #AAAS. Particularly at risk is the category of #basicresearch — the blue-sky variety meant to push back the frontiers of human knowledge and sow practical spinoffs and breakthroughs in such everyday fields as health care and artificial intelligence.
