I'm a tester in the games industry, and I also do 3D art and make little games of my own sometimes.

I'm not super active, but feel free to stop by!

(My personal website is VERY under construction, so don't take it too seriously)

@DevteamLife sad but true, many shareholders have forgotten that investments are long term projects, not instant gratification money machines!
I just feel relieved that the project is ending soon and I might finally get to see something else for 8 hours a day after a year and change of the same game, haha!
I'll do my best to make sure my department gets what it needs, even if it means being blunt and bossy at times. Tact is important, but so is ensuring that I and everyone under me don't get thrown under the bus with teams that haven't learned to properly work with us.

With the project at work ending soon, I'm reflecting on all I've learned about the inherent inefficiencies and caveats of larger projects. As a tester I'm hit particularly hard by delays and kinks in the system, as I only get to do my job when others have done theirs.
It's a shame we're mostly seen as the bottom wrung of the gamedev ladder, but hopefully my specific role being more technical can get me a seat on the planning table to ensure thins go much smoother in future projects...
@ThatOneSeong I hope the rising awareness about FEX's existence can lead to a new influx of ARM-based linux doodads and not just more of the same android handhelds. WIll be interesting to see which way the industry swings
On this current topic of corporate overreach and surveillance and stuff, boy am I glad I'm selling my quest 3. It's a fun device and I love VR but I am no longer willing to have any device made by meta that has microphones and cameras all over itself.
I'll be nabbing a steam frame as soon as I reasonably can for my VR needs. Valve may not be perfect, but they've proven to at least understand the wishes of their users and cater to them rather than just enforcing their own weird agendas.

SaaS, streaming, cloud storage and subscriptions have pushed the concept of non-ownership as convenient and affordable, raising prices and cutting features/content once their audience is captive enough.
This all just feels like the non-ownership future corporations and regimes want is transitioning from a suggestion to an order.
It's now more vital then ever to push for FOSS, federation and ownership, by any means necessary.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but all the huge tech fads in recent years (Crypto, NFTs, AI) have all shared the common issue of hardware becoming scarce for the consumer.
I think none of these technologies were ever the point, but rather serve the same goal of depriving consumers of ownership. You'll have to rent your storage AND your processing, meaning they'll get you on a permanent subscription and will have total control of the hardware you rent from their servers.
Total digital control.

I'm struggling to understand how a development team can be so willingly and deeply in denial about their project absolutely not being ready for release.
We have such a painfully small amount of time left with a huge mountain of issues left to solve, and somehow people keep working as if we've got a whole year of development time ahead of us...

Even if we get the largest possible extension between now and release I'm not sure we could fix it all in time. I just want to be done with this.

@ThatOneSeong Sweeney is so infuriating to read... it baffles me to this day that this man is in charge of the 'main competitor' to steam
I finally moved out a couple days ago.
At the same time work decided to put 4 testers under my wings, I've been asking for extra help for months and they decided to give it to me in the most abrupt way possible 💀
Between the sudden lead tester responsibility and the move this week has been so chaotic, I've barely had time to unpack
Also, I accidentally moved to the same building as my boss... Whoops!
