Well with all the new twitter DM issues and rules a plenty, I need to start crossposting at least. Bah, tech is such trash...
@patrickboyle @Odedrechavi its real quiet up in this :/
For Nanopore Community Meeting #ncm2022 - my onsite poster number is #7, and online number is #16. I'll be around the poster from 4 to 5:15 or so, please do stop by and provide some feedback! Especially interested in feedback for #Deinococcus #phages #plasmids #phylogeny

Over on the hellsite, there's a thoughtful intro to the work of Michael Noll, Bell Labs 1962. Particularly interesting in how it intersected with categorization and law.

I was raised on this stuff but I don't think it gets the airtime it deserves, especially with the current what do you call it, zeitgeist?

“A short thread on the long and complicated history of AI art and copyright. This is Quadratic Gaussian, a piece of digital art generated by Michael Noll exactly 60 years ago (August 28th 1962) and successfully copyrighted two years later in 1965 after a lengthy debate.”

Happy to announce I got a remote gig with neoplants.com!!!! Off to Paris for a 2 week meet and greet and proper onboarding. More details later, including career opportunities for academics/PhDs looking to shift to industry. So excited to work with Pothos!!!
@Birk_lab as for pressure, gonna keep it low and slow and use stepper peristaltics to pump and take my time
@Birk_lab the UV sensor from adafruit is not sensitive enough at 280nm and I dont want to crank up the UVC LED power to burn the proteins just to make up for a crappy sensor. Spinning a new board with a better photodiode, a simple transimpedence amplifier, and an ADC chip all on the same tiny board. Ill provide gerbers and a short howto to order and assemble the parts.

How do you people deal with rejecting candidates?

I know I can hire only one person. I know it.

But it's getting harder to reject tens of good people. Many people with good causes, skills, and CVs.

All those rejections are taking a toll on me...

@lindsayellis glad to know you are well! Your books are a delight.
@adamwolf microbiology is always a good gateway drug into learning about the living world. Carolina dot com and Edvotek dot com sell all sorts of classroom-friendly kits that explore many aspects of biology. Also happy to chat about ideas. How old are the kiddos?
