I love going to the seaside on these hot days, even if it’s a couple of hours to get there. It gives me a sense of enormous freedom that’s normally so lacking in my life (and it’s great for my skin too).
I find it difficult to comprehend how large and sparse the Pacific Ocean is. Some of those countries cover vast areas of ocean. Kiribati for example has a population of 119,000 but the area of ocean is bigger than India. The Federated States of Micronesia is 104,000 people and bigger than Argentina. Many of the islands seem to be uninhabited and others have fewer than 100 people. It does conjure romantic ideas of escaping civilisation but I’m sure in reality it would be exceptionally harsh.
