Getting ready for Cardinals vs Dorfs

Should be **==Fine==**

Teleported a cardinal down to the dorfs

Dorfs immediately climb trees

*long sigh*

Massed the dorfs downstairs instead, and teleported the cardinal (only 1 left) into the farming district

Apparently it died, but I can't find its corpse.

Hopefully it's being cutchered

Really on the fence about tracking books.

Like, it's interesting to have books your dorfs write turn up in forts, but they're a very large overhead to try and find and track, etc

So @Nicktatorship's corpse is still not interred, and @[email protected] keeps going into emotional shock walking past it.

Should prob. get onto that

It's really easy to forget your dead dorfs and the fact that *seeing* them fucks up your other dorfs

Oh no

Cavern connection on the main shaft.

Oh noooo

Whelp

I mean, I can prob. just wall it off, buuuuut...

... and just as we breach the cavern by accident, @RoseArtemis decides to make us an artifact!
Rose is a new migrant, so I've got no idea what she will try to do

She's gone for a craftsdorf's shop, so that's fine.

Was worried she'd want something for clay/sand

Just some badger bones and some stone, so prob. something low value - still, our first artifact for this run of forts, which is great!
Meanwhile, troglodytes are chilling in my stone industry district, so time to squad up https://mastodon.social/media/-XyGax41N3srEzcCiDA
The dorfs roll down, and @balketh and @RoseArtemis engage immediately (though Rose shouuuuld be making that artifact, and I have nfi how that works at all?)

Yeah, the workshop is still claimed.

Did not know you could force them out of the workshop by engaging them?

This couuuuuld cause some weird shit
Fair to say this troglodyte is in trouble.
Leadership transitions during combat == ALWAYS BAD

... yep.

@MachineLordZero is DOWN

Not without a fight, tho, three troglodytes are downed

"Whose blood is that?"

Does it matter?

Found out what happened. @MachineLordZero was downstairs a few levels, trying to take on a bunch of trogs by themselves - took two of em out tho
The dorf on the right in that pic is @katelyn occupying the same space as a troglodyte - they've both passed out on top of each other

Oh no!

We also lost @RoseArtemis in that melee, which means... no artifact forever

We're starting to get to the point in a fort where a lot of really bad 'yeah I fucked that up' things are coming through, and I might restart after a little while longer
It's ok, because we're just washing through more and more lore as we do multiple forts, etc
Restarting is especially tempting since Zero was our main miner...
Elves have arrived, so we can at least trade off a bunch of food

The traders were actually dorf traders, so I'm having to drag a whole bunch more stuff in.

We've also got petitions! (despite not having a tavern, etc)

Quick free militia, here we come

Petitions are still absolutely flooding in despite our lack of a tavern.

*shrug*

Anyway, we've got heaps and heaps of food so we'll take everyone

We should be wary of any military action soon, though, since it's almost winter

Winter == frozen river == no water to give to the sick == dead

That said, the river isn't frozen yet and I have all these free troops, soooo

Hrm, folks who join your fort via petition aren't available for recruitment into squads.

That's a wee bit shit

Actually getting an itch to move on from this fort - again, there's just a lot of small fuckups that are multiplying out over duration to be annoying
STILL - it's been good. Getting back into it, certainly

Migrants in, so incarnations for

@CaptainKateCapsize
@ThreeOhFour
and @hummingrain

We actually got far more migrants (and more petititons), so incarnations for
@HyperTigerXT
@Supervinh47
@Slushy_
@Alisca

OH SHIT

IT

IS

ON

We've got all these rando petitioned cits that we have little control over, soooo

Ok, so if you all just form up in the tunnels we can wait to hit it with arrows...

*@Fenreliania runs in*

Oh.

Fuck it, let's just roll with kill orders

Swapping the orders to kill, dorfs pour out of the tunnels and start shooting at the Weretortoise

Doubt this is going to go down well

@antstiller and @scutterman are first to make contact. Ant goes in for melee immediately
Fen did a little damage on the weretortoise, it has a damaged left arm and left leg.
Absolute stacks-on now, which means everyone's basically going to be a lycan after this

'Why don't we have any traps'

Because we really fucked up somewhere and our mason/stone supply broke

Sometimes you'll do something to a stockpile and despite being full, it won't actually let anyone take things from it, hence no mechanisms

Weretortoise is DOWN

Now, uh, we find out who's a lycan

This is actually a good spot for us to retire this fort, tbh. It's gonna be a long downhill from here before we start improving if we have any more fatalities

Righteous.

Spearromanced has been retired!

@DarkestKale No more shall our spears be romanced
@DarkestKale It's easy to mark a stockpile as forbidden or dumped; make sure to check the undump/claim controls, as it'll highlight all instances of dumped/forbidden stuff. Every so often I do a big clear of the map to make sure I'm not screwing myself over with my regular usage of dump/forbid.

@balketh Yeah, just one of those things.

I've also noted in the past that if you have a stockpile FULL of barrels, then sell the barrels (wine!), it doesn't always let you get new barrels into that stockpile

@balketh Either way, Spearromanced had a lot of small issues adding up to big problems - for some reason the dorfs weren't stockpiling food at all, so it was rotting in kitchens, etc
@DarkestKale Literally the saddest reason to close a fort, because its death would be slow and boring. :P

@balketh Yeah pretty much.

Like, I don't mind seeing a fort run into the ground in flames, but this is just 'everything is ok... but it's very sub optimal'

@balketh Like, I started new mason workshops in the lower levels, demolished the one on the surface - then the dorfs are like 'oh the blocks we wanted for the lower level mason workshop are GONE'

For no reason, they just ignored all the ones that were sitting up there

@DarkestKale If you find that's happening, try forbidding the whole lot (usually by stack forbidding or area forbidding, IIRC), unpause, repause, then reclaim that forbidden pile. Usually resets their perception of the objects' accessibility, but may be due to different factors.
