Witch aesthetic is extremely strong on Mastodon
@Gargron because it's definitely the only aesthetic that counts. let's be real here.

@Gargron WITCHES ARE ALWAYS POWERFUL. HEXPERTS EVEN.

I'M SURE THEY APPRECIATE THE PLATFORM.

@Gargron may be correlated to all the trans people i've seen tooting here. We are kinda known for witch aesthetics
@Gargron I mean dark background framework and stars are kinda witchy aesthetic already
@Gargron have you considered using CoinHive to capitalize on mastodon.social's userbase and help fund better servers/pay salaries?
@thomasmost Is that the thing that mines bitcoins in the browser? Absolutely not. Waste of people's CPU cycles/battery power. I've got a Patreon, that's enough.
@Gargron Yeah, it is... and I'll grant you it's super sketchy to use without people's permission. But you shouldn't dismiss it out of hand; they have some cool features
@Gargron Like, you can turn down the percentage used by the miner to like 25% if you want -- they also have a Captcha option that performs hashing. I feel like if you're upfront with people about it, people would be happy to pay with their CPU
@Gargron That said, *totally* respect your choice to not. Just been occupying my mind. Joined yesterday and spent a lot of today reading about Mastodon instances and pricing models when I should've been working ๐Ÿ˜…
@Gargron Sorry, I didn't mean to tell you your business! Like I said, it's just been on my mind. Love the site, and all you do!
@thomasmost @Gargron It's sketchy to use, period. Monero more than most cryptocurrencies is used for illegal purposes.

@WAHa_06x36 @Gargron

I'm afraid I don't agree with you there... informing users up front that a small percentage of their CPU will be used during their browsing to pay for the experience seems like a very respectable alternative to advertising, which I would climb is far, far sketchier.

Sure, running everything off donation is amazing, but there's nothing inherently sketchy about building a pay-for-what-you-use model into a networking platform

@thomasmost @Gargron I don't think advertising money generally goes to help drug dealers, though.
@WAHa_06x36 err -- if you're earning monero through hashing on your site... that money isn't going to help drug dealers either lol
@Gargron I think that's becoming my favorite thing about this site.
@Gargron I am very interested in this!! ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
