Ask about a classic book and I'll work out a summary for you
I won't say an untruth to y'all: I did a bad job of this
@parkr war and peace.
@Powersource hard as I'm not so familiar but: lots of folks with long Russian patronymics, unhappy in distinct ways. Also I think Gauls try to go into Russia, which is what its War bit is about
@parkr crying of lot 49
@kit haha oh boy what is this guy ABOUT? A lady looks for a radio DJ and a guy who has a famous stamp and finds so much odd shit about postal firms and an old physcist's analogy about a tiny guy who can sort hot and cold atoms
@parkr ooh, ooh! Do Tristram Shandy
@phooky oof, can't say I know it first-hand, but I can try. Looks as if a guy ("Tristram") is born and a lot of bad stuff occurs and according to his dad that minor bad stuff is truly calamitous. And, ah, Tristram's avuncular guy Toby sustains a groin injury and wants to go all in on making a small imitation of that grim spot (and also: falls for a widow)
@parkr Tolstoy's book about a lady who kind of has a thing for trains
@ingrid ok, I'll admit, I don't know it firsthand. My original prompt smacks of hubris, in hindsight

@parkr @ingrid our most popular kind of snacks!

...oh, "smacks"

@parkr Do J.A.'s classic about Liz B. & Mr. Darcy! Or "Things Fall Apart"!
@snarkout OK so a guy with lots of cash wants to find a lady to marry. That's obvious. But lots of drama along its way, and WHO is this guy gonna hitch up with? Only J.A. can say;.
@parkr Three Men in a Boat.
@Irick a handful of bros go on a lazy trip (with a dog) from Kingston to Oxford and back. It's alright, and funny. Fast forward to now, and C. Willis' follow-up works similar ground but is now about visiting distant pasts
@parkr To Say Nothing of the Dog is great. Super weird tonal shift coming from The Doomsday Book though.
@Irick that's totally right. For this guy, a low point of that batch of books. But lots of folks think it's ultra good, so who knows. I'm a big fan of Blackout/All &c.
@parkr solaris
@swartzcr a guy from that famous doctor show is in a ship and bad shit starts to go down. TBH I didn't finish that film
@parkr Thomas Hardy's last
@bnwlfsn lol I do not know which book you call up, and I without a doubt don't know it first-hand
@parkr How about Bart, a copyist who is brought in to aid at law?
@orion do you talk of Bart who must put words on chalkboard?
