@cc nope, that's a bad argument. Mastodon isn't the world, it's a place for people to feel comfortable and have fun on the internet.

Nothing is gained by forcing people to listen to people who don't respect them tell them why. That's what reality is for.

@mykola in terms of oral history, I think the radical leftists & communists showed up way before infosec twitter, who still seem like newborn mastodon calves from my perspective. There was a lot of discourse (relative to crowd size :B) around Castro's death & funeral. Variations on 'Gay furry communist twitter' were the tagline for a bit.

What I see here is constantly changing. The consistent element is effort. People are working at this.

It wasn't until someone told me, then I realised I was part of the 'others'. It didn't bother me to be an outlier, but I suppose for some groups/affinities, being pegged as an outsider would be enough to push them away. worth thinking about maybe?

I do think the space is/will be ever evolving as parameters/users/numbers change and discussions evolve. I completely agree that a sensitivity to others & respect is needed. For awhile I wondered if I should avoid tooting on public TL so as to preserve that space for existent communities.

There is nothing wrong with it changing, the problem was people comping in and demanding or assuming that the space would change to fix them.

@mykola It's all sorts of wonderful, isn't it? And knowing that these spaces are guarded by like-minded folk and a like-minded admin makes it all the better.
It's always better when people do things because they want to, than have corporations trying to create something "for everyone" while pushing ads in your face.

It goes Laconica -> StatusNet ->GNU\Social -> Mastodon ->Pleroma (As far as release order goes) It actually started with LibreGeeks (FOSS Nerds like me who wanted a better Social Network) it did NOT start with furries.
