Just noticed the #Loomio added #RankedChoiceVoting to the platform's decision making toolbox... 😍
@mattcropp yes I saw that too... Didn't thrill me unfortunately! I've yet to see any compelling reason to use rcv over #scorevoting, especially in groups where there is a degree of trust. I chatted with them about this and there was some positive response, Rcv was developed for commission. You asked me for a primer on this ages ago, I'm still plodding along with that whilst setting up a common/coop house, but you can experience the basic setup through https://ukuvota.world/#/ (Cheers @wolfi )

@douginamug @wolfi @fabianhjr Well, everyone who geeks out about #governance enough inevitably has their favorite voting system, so Imma celebrate new tools, even if it's probably gonna be a while before I get my dream #sortition poll. :P

@mattcropp @wolfi @fabianhjr Sorry, I don't want to rain on the parade! I often find it hard to express a strong opinion without doing so...

Do you know any coop/gov geeks on social coop that would be interested to chat about rcv/range?

Also, have you described your sortition poll anywhere I could read? Chhheeers.

@douginamug Oh ma, #socialcoop is chock full of governance geeks. I wonder if this might be an opportunity to organize a #tootup on the topic? We'd pick a date, time, and hashtag for folks interested in discussing voting systems. Maybe #votechat?

To #sortition, this essay gives a good intro: http://www.coopwatercooler.com/discussions//4m79q1m88fwktufew30pyeg3k4i9zh

A Better Co-op Democracy Without Elections?

All large cooperative and membership organizations (nonprofits, worker-owned enterprises, etc.) that seek to govern themselves democratically face a perennial problem. How can an organization maintain member interest in matters of organizational governance year after year, and avoid management captu

@mattcropp I'm up for that! Will read that link...

#votechat
ok I just though a thought into the room:

I found the process before the actual vote happends often more important then the vote itself.
What happends before will shape how and what ppl vote for. The voting process will then 'just' sort the different opinions.
Depending which voting system is used, some will be closer presenting the reality then others.

@mattcropp @douginamug any further reading you recommend about #sortition after that article?

@mattcropp @douginamug

I'd be down for NYC!

@revolutio @mattcropp do you mean meeting in New York City? I'd be up for that, but I'm currently living in Germany without disposable income!
