Is there some kind of law that says men's watches must have a dial the same diameter as Jupiter?

What is this gaudy nonsense?

My dad and granddads had watches you could actually wear without worrying about distorting spacetime or attracting orbital detritus

@cypnk Our grandfathers asserted their manliness by choking Nazis to death. All we got is the chance to buy manly accessories.
@cypnk Purely a fashion thing, luckily it seems that it's started going the other way now
@troubleMoney Some companies do seem to have come to their senses. And not a moment too soon since I don't think the watch demographic could get any douchier than it already is 馃槪
@cypnk Might not get back to 36mm being a men's size any time soon but people are realising that 45+mm watches are maybe a bit on the large side
@troubleMoney My current watch is a Seiko SNK809. Mercifully under 40mm and works fine for daily use. It's getting a little beat up since my hobby is carpentry and soap making. Wood shavings and lye are taking their toll

@cypnk Damn good watches for the price those, got one myself

Can't go wrong with Seiko

@cypnk
The law of stupid design and the marketing behind.

I'm happy with my old (small) watch. If I'ld like to have an 7" thing on my wrist, I'ld tape a phone on it

@_trampeltier Same. I have a Seiko that I've been happy with, but it's got a whole bunch of scratches on the face and bezel and the strap is a bit dirty. I thought I'd get something else for when I'm with company, but I guess I'm gonna wearing this
@cypnk
I have a couple of Swatches and an automatic Sector, but I can't (often) / don't like to wear a watch at work on my job now. Even in private I rarely wear a watch now. Almost just on holiday or rarely when I go out.

@_trampeltier I wanted to avoid looking at my phone all the time so I needed a way to tell time without it. The phone really kills the mood in private conversations. It's like an energy vampire

Also, I went camping in the woods recently and my phone was off for peace and quiet and to save the battery for an emergency (not that it mattered since I had no bars most of the time)

I'm pretty lazy with "gadgets" too so I wanted to avoid anything with batteries I might need to change
