Mastodon somehow failed to learn from Diaspora that if "where do I sign up?" isn't a URL, but a dissertation, people won't bother. It's a hard problem, but if it's not solved then there was no point in solving the other problems.
Oh god for a remote follow you need to type your own user@instance (that you're logged into) and that could not possibly be a worse experience. Yes federated SSO is a v hard problem but again, no point in solving the other ones if you don't solve this one.
@embolalia it is probably a mistake to conceive of mastodon as "done" in a way such that the lack of those features is an intentional choice rather than one of the many things that simply has not happened yet
@embolalia maybe we don't want people that can't read directions on here? I don't believe this platform is intended to appeal to the lowest common denominator. If people want dumb, fast and easy, stay on Facebook or go back to MySpace.
@embolalia while I'd simplify that to the less flame-y "shit zealots say," @VinceintheBay your analysis doesn't allow the nuance required to differentiate between users "wanting dumb/fast/easy" and a product having simple stories and a clear #UX.
