Just as Ukraine is reaching a turning point, German Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz wants to freeze the front line.

I think the Bundeskanzler is forgetting that he lives in one of Europe's most successful democracies, not because we stopped World War 2 in the Ardennes, but because we continued all the way to Berlin where Hitler killed himself.

@randahl While I could confirm Merz's quote about the front line from other news portals as well, I just want to note that you need to be wary of welt.de.

Welt belongs to Axel Springer and they are known to not be neutral in their reporting. They even allowed Musk to write an advertising article for the AfD two years ago. They are climate change denialists, and they shared other right-wing conspiracy myths in the past, too.
They are just more eloquent than Bild.

@randahl My own sense is that AxelSpringer SE is not so much biased as careless. They own a lot of media, with a fairly wide bias spread, some of it awful. (Poland's Fakt is among the worst, even by already-low tabloid standards.) I suspect they're pretty hands-off with local management, and don't really care as long as money's coming in. Perhaps ironically in this discussion, Die Welt might be their BEST holding, at least according to MBFC.

@Randahl Fink before he got elected he accused the former gvmt of not supporting ukraine enough, because they refused to hand over this german cruise missile taurus. after being elected he immediately forgot about this thing and and now refuses to give this missile away himself. several german politicians from spd (social democrats) and cdu/csu (right wing conservatives) have already been mentioning "freezing" the confict, as if that could be a valid solution with people like putin and his ilk. luckily for ukraine merz is very famous for completely failing whith his propositions. but still, this sounds dangerous for zelensky ...

The only way to have true peace is for Russia to be defeated and for Ukraine to get all of their territory back.
