LISTING OF DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH PRESS RELEASES

Aha, this one from Phoenix. Curious if there will be a measles alert in Arizona, too. (not always) #measles

H/T to the public health folks in LA County who didn't just cookie cutter "blame international travelers" wording in this one.

"...As measles outbreaks continue to occur both in the United States and internationally, Public Health urges everyone in LA County to ensure they are fully protected from measles before traveling and take recommended precautions.

The most effective way to protect yourself and your family is with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. Children 12 months and older are considered fully protected against measles after receiving two doses of the MMR vaccine. Infants who are older than 6 months and are traveling internationally or to domestic areas with ongoing measles outbreaks can get an early dose...."

Meanwhile, in Utah, some health departments are not listing exposure sites to avoid embarrassing businesses. 🙄 (MAJOR outbreak in Utah right now)

In Utah, here’s why some measles exposure sites never appear in public alerts

A person who doesn’t know they are infected with measles may enter a business in Utah and unknowingly expose people they pass by or sit near — yet that business may never appear in public health alerts.

@ai6yr measles is like the most contagious virus there is, isn't it?
@kimlockhartga Pretty much

@ai6yr @kimlockhartga

Not anymore. It used to be, until covid. Source in my pinned toots

@kimlockhartga

Somewhere I have a graph of different infectious diseases' CFR vs Rt. Where is that?

CFR is "if you get it, do you die?" Common cold, usually not. Ebola, often you do.

Rt is the replication rate. Some diseases do not spread easily, so don't take off. Leprosy.

Some jump from person to person easily, large Rt, spread fast. Measles in the unvaccinated.

Graph is map of what dangers we face.

Probably we should talk more about it.

@kimlockhartga @ai6yr COVID shot past it, but measles r-nought used to be the reference point. Whooping Cough is in the same range.

For every infection, it creates ~15 more.

@Laukidh @ai6yr Can you imagine if Pertussis spread? Man. That would be devastating. The 100 day cough.
