My running club has very sensibly cancelled tomorrow evening's runs due to the weather. I wasn't going to go anyway (due to the predicted temperature), but its good that they made the call officially #running #UKHeatwave #Bristol #RedAlert

Hmm, the #RedAlert has supposedly been extended in my area until 23:00 on Friday. I'm supposed to be racing at 19:00 on Friday. Let's see what the race organisers do (putting on races is a big way local clubs raise money). I can't find confirmation beyond this news report though https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cd95jj989xqt?post=asset%3A39c02ae5-2ecf-44d1-bfce-29f3861067dd#post #running #UKHeatwave

Weather alert for south-west

A complicating factor is that this race is part of our club championships, so whilst there's the option of attending and just gently jogging it around to get your drink and hot dog, it will affect your standings in the competition (unless the club makes the decision to remove it from counting).
4 miles easy this morning and I'm absolutely not racing in the same conditions tomorrow evening. I will probably attend and just jog around, and have contacted my club committee to suggest removing the race from the championships (not that I'm fast enough to contend at the top anyway).
Interestingly the person I contacted on the committee is pretty certain that the race will be cancelled. I'm pretty certain it won't be. The conditions are set to be similar to last year (which went ahead) just without the days of hotter temperatures beforehand. It's their big Summer fundraiser and they'll have bought in a lot of extra stuff already (all finishers get a hot dog and a drink). I guess we wait and see.
The race organisers have confirmed that the race tomorrow is going ahead.
Currently at 90:10 in favour of not going at all, not even to jog around, so as not to risk becoming a casualty. There's potentially rain here overnight, so will see what the conditions (and forecast) are in the morning. Most likely will do my own easy run in the morning instead. Hopefully they don't make a loss on the catering they've already bought in. I'm sure any attendees would be happy eating up the portions of those who don't go (already paid for through race entries).
Nah, not risking it.
Oh gods, now someone wants to buy my entry off me, but the window for that closed on Wednesday. Too hot to deal with any of this.
Hmm, my original post disappeared, but my club are keeping the race in the internal club champs, pushing the risk onto individuals. Something I found out 2 miles into my replacement run (so too late to change plans). The wrong decision, imo, both ethically and legally. But on their own heads and consciences be it. I just hope everyone's OK. At least they considered the issue.
Attendees are reporting weather apps saying it's forecast to be 22°C (71.6°F) at race time, but those same apps say it's supposed to be 25°C (77°F) now where my equipment is saying it's currently 29.9°C (85.82°F) in the shade, so...
Race start time and I'm measuring 26.5°C (79.7°F) in the shade, where the apps say it's supposed to be 24° (75.2°F) here and 22°C (71.6°F) at race location. Happy with my decision not to attend. Hope it all goes off safely.
