#Trump ousts National #Science Board members

Members of the independent board that guides the National Science Foundation [#NSF] said they received a notice from the White House that their positions were being terminated.

Multiple #scientists who serve on an independent board established to guide the nation’s nearly $9 billion basic science funding agency were terminated from their positions Friday by Trump.

I guess I'm glad they studied this, but duh!

STUDY of hospitalized patients exposed to symptomatic visitors with URTI (upper respiratory tract infections) finds that many get infected. "Visitors are essential to patient care but those with URTIs pose a risk to patients. Visitors should avoid visiting when sick and adhere to hospital protocols including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment usage and compliance with masking policies."

Hospitals are dangerous places. Air purification would mitigate the risk. Too bad most infection control professionals have voted for job security over patient safety, as I recently experienced up close and personally.

This is by no means the first paper to make these points.

> Despite good air quality (mean CO2 614 ppm), 39% of air samples had SARS-CoV-2 RNA.

> Hot spots for risk in the emergency ward include the acute care and waiting area.

> In critical care, hot spots include the tearoom and corridors near infected rooms.

> The risk of nosocomial outbreaks may be mitigated through air purifiers and masks.

It's very odd not to be preparing for London Marathon this evening (after 8 races on the trot), but glad I'm not facing yet another hot year (late April is too late for me and anything over 10° is too hot). Go out slower than you trained for, and hydrate well (if you can carry electrolytes to add, all the better). Take it all in, finishing and not ending up in the medical tent is the aim. #running #LondonMarathon

A lovely little article about my local #parkrun #bristol

Edit: it helps if I add the link, apparently https://www.bristol247.com/lifestyle/health-and-fitness/celebrating-15-years-parkrun-ashton-court/

Ashton Court became the first parkrun in Bristol in 2011

I wouldn't normally do two long runs on back-to-back days (since I'm not training for anything specific), but I wanted to get my weekend long run in today so that I can watch London marathon tomorrow, so a classic #parkrunSandwich was in order. Lots of time between the elements as I was there early to do the first timer's welcome, and hung around to celebrate our event's 15th anniversary afterwards (I got a certificate for volunteering, which I then had to run home with). Gorgeous day. #parkrun

Poor little fellow has a hole in his tooth, so has pain relief and an appointment for an extraction.
