Michael Szell@timgreenli I've never used ArcGIS, only QGIS, but I came to geospatial as an outsider, so I have no good insights into what people "typically" use. In FOSS, I think everybody uses only QGIS, unless they are somehow forced not to.

Plenty of people have no desire to deal with ESRI's ridiculous licensing.
Like QGIS, ESRI's offerings are built on top of open-source, ie, @gdal, @postgis, @postgresql, etc.
Skip the middleman, use and contribute to the sources directly.
