#Netflix has acquired rights to the russian series masha and the Bear, which incorporates pro-kremlin, militaristic propaganda aimed at children.

@EugeneMcParland Sure glad that I don't give any money to Netflix. 🤬
@EugeneMcParland Netflix finally hit rock bottom
@EugeneMcParland those familiar characters can be put to good use once the populous needs to be reprogrammed after Putin is gone👍

@EugeneMcParland idk i watched masha and the bear as a child, since when is it propaganda ?

its like a girl masha is friends w a bear and they like go fishing or make jam or alike

@ari @EugeneMcParland they celebrate Russian nationalist holidays (evil, militaristic) unlike when US cartoons characters celebrate Veteran's Day (good, righteous)

Like

I don't think any cartoons should give nationalistic messages to children

But it's not any worse than Paw Patrol

@ari @EugeneMcParland like...victory day and defense of the fatherland day are just holidays in Russia, and will probably continue to be so after Putin dies
@julieofthespirits @EugeneMcParland i dont even remember any nationalistic stuff in masha i medvedi tho i was like idk 5 so memory mightve faded
@ari @EugeneMcParland yeah I think this is just the social media account saying Happy Victory Day the way us cartoon social media accounts will say Happy Fourth of July
@ari @EugeneMcParland and unless we're also going after every cartoon that shows characters celebrating the Fourth of July (something I'm open to!) then who the fuck cares
@EugeneMcParland
Shit. Netflix is the only TV I watch. Bastards. Dirty, rotten bastards.

@EugeneMcParland

Cancel Netflix. Phone them up, let them know.

Netflix to show militaristic Russian children's propaganda to children.

You'd think sanctions and war would affect the way Netflix chooses contaminated bullshit.

Netflix Lands New Seasons Of ‘Masha And The Bear’

Netflix has acquired two more seasons of animated series Masha and the Bear and extended its deal for previous and spin-off seasons of the hit show.

Deadline
@EugeneMcParland also Disney is propaganda
@EugeneMcParland gosh why nazi-soviet propaganda? Is trumpery taken over the company?

@EugeneMcParland
my man, May 9 is literally the same Victory Day they celebrate in Ukraine

if your position is "Netflix should blanket boycott Russia" then i kinda agree, but trying to single out a goofy kid show for posting "happy veterans day" is dumb

@EugeneMcParland
millions of ** Ukrainians ** literally fought nazis while wearing the same hat the kid wears in the picture
@saddestrobots @EugeneMcParland you're either illiterate, or a pro-russia troll, which is even worse.

@bonkers @EugeneMcParland

you should boycott and sanction russia on the same moral and practical grounds as "you shouldn't do any business with israeli settlements." that's a simple, direct, effective standard. netflix shouldn't pay money for "masha" because that involves giving a ton of money to a russian media company, end of story.

there is no reason to waste time doing the whole a-spectre-is-haunting-europe bit about the hidden meanings of a dull and culturally unadventurous tv show.

@saddestrobots @EugeneMcParland she's literally wearing a KGB uniform hat.
@saddestrobots @EugeneMcParland and it takes 30 second to find out about May 8/9 celebrations in different countries and what the difference is.
@saddestrobots @EugeneMcParland It was. When Ukraine was occupied by russia.
@EugeneMcParland as if the US haven't been doing the same thing for decades...

@EugeneMcParland @torf oh shit, I didn't know this crap is as popular as Peppa Pig. Makes me sad.
@EugeneMcParland Is it just about the holidays or is there something else? Those have been national holidays there as long as I can remember, celebrating the veterans of WW2.
@Gargron @EugeneMcParland Netflix pays a Russian-tied studio, and part of that money lands in the same budget firing missiles at Ukraine. But the slower poison is the rest. Those holidays are not innocent celebrations. They are how Russia turns the army into something holy and dying for the state into something noble, planted in children before they are old enough to question it. (1/2)
Since 2014 that same machine has run on one fuel, the lie that killing Ukrainians is heroic. A cheerful bear is just where the lesson begins. (2/2)
@Gargron @EugeneMcParland
@prvrtl @EugeneMcParland Maybe Masha and the Bear is a propaganda cartoon--I don't know, I haven't watched it--but it seems weird to call out militarized holidays as the reason when 4th of July and Veterans Day exist in the US where Netflix is from.
@Gargron @EugeneMcParland A cheerful Wehrmacht bear streaming worldwide in 1943. Would that one be fine too?

@EugeneMcParland It seemed harmless enough to watch with the kids until the second episode where the bear takes a belt off the wall to punish Masha - he doesn't, but at that point I was out.
