Today in #TTRPG and #DND news:

Apparently, Vampire: The Masquerade is coming to... #dnd5e? Guess what, if you're confused, so am I!

I'm gonna be honest here, I don't know how I feel about this. It encourages people to play more D&D, rather than, y'know, games built for certain settings and tones...

But maybe, juuuuust maybe, it'll be a 'gateway drug'? I dunno. This is weird.

@laren
Similar. I don't like that it reinforces an old system and imposes it in other areas, but then VtM hasn't been exactly progressing well system-wise either so...

Eh, it's still better than d&d.

I mean really, are they going to have character levels *and* generation? Or get really crazy and add in blood potency from V5 as well? 😵‍💫

@murdoc If I had to guess?
- Blood potency becomes a class feature, improving w/ level.
- Generation gets handwaved.
- Subclasses are the clans. (My bet - Gangrel, Brujah, Ventrue or Toreador, and Tremere.) Somehow I doubt they'll have a ton of subclasses.
- Spellcasting feature based on blood for tremere.
- Gangrel get Protean stuffs.
- Ventrue/Toreador get mindfuckery.
- Brujah get potency.

Vampire v6 is *rumored* to be at... gencon, I think it was? I just pray the book is better laid out than 5e's core book. Holy hell is that book a tragedy in print.

@laren
Wow, that's a lot of shoehorning. Clans as sub-classes? You mean, you'll still be a fighter or thief or whatever?

That was one of the things I loved about Storyteller, was crafting your character how you wanted. The only thing remotely siloed was clan disciplines, but that was partly for thematic reasons, and there were still ways around it.

And they're planning a V6 now too? More ambivalence... 😬

@murdoc Nah, look at the description:

"Welcome to the World of Darkness with the new Kindred class for 5.5e. A full vampire class powered by Blood Points, Disciplines, and the ever-clawing Beast inside!"

"Kindred" becomes a class. Clan as subclass makes sense in that context.

It's still a ton of shoehorning.

@laren
Ok, thanks. Kinda motivates me to work on a setting conversion for the game I'm designing to see how well it will work.
@laren Even more reason to leave both systems behind. Run Urban Shadows (https://magpiegames.com/collections/urban-shadows) or Undying (https://www.ttrpg-games.com/item/undying) or something instead.
