OK, so I just learned elsewhere that there's a secret group run by Peter Thiel (https://dialog.org/) for fancy people who want to be able to talk to each other 'off the record'.

Friends. If you go to the website, and open 'developer tools' in your browser, go to 'inspector' and drill down in the dom you will find a plain text list of members of this group.

There are something like 113 fancy people.

I will list them in this thread.

@amyfou former minister of health is playing down his current role in government quite a bit maybe @correctiv_org finds that interesting
@phf Den Spahn hatte ich überlesen! 🫣 Der lÀsst echt nichts aus.
@amyfou are they trying to rewrite history? I don’t recall musk being a co-founder of Tesla… unless they consulted chatgpt πŸ˜‚
@umbrella @amyfou Musk paid the actual founders of Tesla to let him call himself one of the co-founders of Tesla. It's a famously scumbag thing he did like 10 years ago (or more idk).
@amyfou WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? KAJA KALLAS???? I really hope heads start rolling in the European Commission asap.
@amyfou The fact that they don't let you use Mercado Livre without face scans suddenly makes A LOT more sense
@amyfou Atul Gawande? What the hell?

@amyfou I'm a bit surprised by Joseph Gordon-Levitt being on the list. He doesn't seem especially political or anything.

Unsurprised to see Larry fucking Summers though.

@amyfou Eight posts in, and so far only one person I didn't already consider a shithead.

I mean, there are some names I didn't recognize, but they are probably shitheads.

@liquor_american @amyfou
I never thought of Kono as a shithead. He's well on the moderate side of the LDP, and people have lamented that he doesn't have internal support to actually become PM.

Edit: on the other hand, if you wanted an in with the japanese government, Kono strikes me as C-list material at best. If that's the best Thiel can do...

@amyfou So much for Julian Castro and Cory Booker.
@ClimateJenny Right? Julian was the only real surprise but both are disappointments
@ClimateJenny I was not surprised about Booker, but sighed over Castro @amyfou
@amyfou BOB CIALDINI LOOOOOOOL holy shit these people fucking *love* Influence
@amyfou PLAIN TEXT? LOL.
@ai6yr @amyfou They are incredibly clear on OPSEC.
@tsturm @ai6yr @amyfou just a guess but I bet this a slop website and the LLM just copy/pasted the whole member list in
@fraggle @tsturm @ai6yr @amyfou I doubt that; whois suggests it comes via squarespace. Not 'good', but not slop.
@harmoniousanger @fraggle @tsturm @ai6yr @amyfou Squarespace has a built-in AI site builder these days.
@mathew @fraggle @tsturm @ai6yr @amyfou My apologies, I haven't even thought about ss in a decade.

@tsturm @ai6yr @amyfou I've been poking around the site and I'm almost offended how poorly built this shit is. Like, I don't know what space cadets they hired to make this, but it's bad. So bad. Their CSS is garbage, and their frontend is embarrassing. The whole "exposing the list of members" thing is just the cherry on top.

They coulda paid me $50,000 and I'd have made them a beautiful, functional website that doesn't turn into a PR debacle. Well, I probably wouldn't've, given who they are.

@Legit_Spaghetti @tsturm @ai6yr @amyfou I’m sure they just asked fucking ChatGPT or whatever the fuck to make them a website
@Recalcitrant @Legit_Spaghetti @tsturm @ai6yr @amyfou yeah I think I found a prompt in one of the comment sections but nowadays who knows how that got in there

@ai6yr @amyfou They're actually all in the "directory-card" section of index-BO5d259a.js which is pulled into the main index page without requiring a login, and not obfuscated. So much winning. And whyTF is Cory Booker in there?

(I wonder, are these meant to be conversations with actual people, or could these be LLM personality simulations?)

(Nope, not simulated. https://www.wired.com/story/leak-exposes-members-of-peter-thiels-secretive-dialog-society/ )

Leak Exposes Members of Peter Thiel’s Secretive β€˜Dialog’ Society

More than 200 of the world's elites registered for a retreat whose agenda runs from panels on cult-building and sex to prepping for World War III. An associated app offers matchmaking.

WIRED
@linuxandyarn @ai6yr @amyfou is it me or did this just get fixed silently? I can't find it anymore
@amyfou Conversations off the record? Is there anyone foolish enough to believe that anything on the Internet is off the record? The Internet never forgets. This is a honeypot to collect incriminating quotes for future use as blackmail or character assassination. Fools.

@ke7yxz
> Is there anyone foolish enough to believe that anything on the Internet is off the record?

Yeah, me. People have countless private discussion on the internet, and most of them don't have leaks.

End-to-end encryption is pretty routine for traffic (including discussion) on the internet; e.g. Signal or OpenPGP.

Which is not to say the chuckleheads who made dialog.org know anything about making a secure system for private discussion. Nor would I trust anyone on that list with privacy.

@bignose End-to-end encryption means that those chuckleheads get your clear text. The honeypot people get your data in the clear with you as the non-reputiatable source. They can release it any time they wish.

@ke7yxz
> End-to-end encryption means that those chuckleheads get your clear text.

The people implementing the system (which is what I said)? No, the whole point of end-to-end encryption is that no one in the middle, not even the party running or implementing the system, can access the clear text.

So you don't need to trust the internet, nor trust the people who run the system. You just need to trust the other part(y|ies) and whether they'll leak your text. Which is what I said.

@bignose @ke7yxz nice, I understand.

(I will say I much prefer the fedi dialogue we have here, where I learn how stuff works, to the frighteningly corrupt peter theil/epstein type shit. dios mio.)

@amyfou This is quite the list of people who will all later claim they were just there to see what others were saying and knew nothing of the criminal stuff going on.
@nazokiyoubinbou or they'll say they weren't actually members, but they were ppl Pete wanted to have as members or smthg
