So many stories are told about the protagonist against the monster. In John Wiswell's Someone You Can Build a Nest In, the protagonist *is* the monster. Well, is one monster, there's plenty of monstrous people to go around.

Shesheshen, aforementioned monster, is attacked in her lair, wounded, and escapes. Grievously injured, she's nursed back to health by Homily, a kind woman who seems like she would be really tasty to eat.

Except instead of eating her, Shesheshen seems to have fallen in love with her only to discover that Homily's family is seeking out the monster (her!) to destroy it.

And then things start getting really complicated.

This has been one of the most delightful finds of my year as this book is unlike anything I've ever read before.
