Hand tools are nice, because the better you get with them the freer you become!
I did do one latheish thing, when drilling for the tang, I left the handle on the drill and let it spin to be able to quickly sand the round grip closest to the bolster.
@jorny Impressive regularity in the hexagon if done without lathe.
Jokes aside, it looks great! I'd love to make that kind of handle too.
Thanks! Planed it square(-ish) in section first, marked out the diameter with a compass and then planed of the corners to make it octagonal. Then shaped with a knife and cleaned up with files and sandpaper.
