remember kids: lack of consequences is tantamount to permission.

not holding people accountable for being fucking monsters is giving them permission to continue being monsters.

@Viss agreed, now how do we apply that to elon?

@karl new supreme court justices, for a start.

but this thread was posted in a much smaller context. people here on mastodon being indifferent to folks attacking others maliciously

@Viss @karl

"Block and move on" does tend to let things continue; you just don't have to look at it.

@jrdepriest @karl 100% - and the attackers have modeled attacks on this.

for example - back on twitter, before elon took it over, if someone blocked you, the hamburger menu for their profile went inactive.

problem is - that hamburger menu is where the 'report' function lived.

so if someone preemptively blocked you before starting a disinformation campaign, you couldnt report them.

if they told their little cult to do the same ...

you see where this is going

@Viss @jrdepriest @karl

recently they tried a fediblock dogpile on a prominent ukrainian. i noticed the new accounts involved had all proactively blocked me

jokes on them. i browse fediblock logged out

it was wonderfully affirming and validating. i am known amongst the slime
