It's unconscionable that the city wants to raid the climate fund and community development fund to pay for Moda Center renovations without asking the big, private businesses that profit from it to contribute (esp. the Portland Trailblazers owner).

The city has launched a survey. You can give your feedback here:

@courtney we've both completed it, thanks for the link. #PDX #RoseGarden (#ModaCenter)
@courtney (1) thank you for posting this! (2) "Provide an anchor for the future redevelopment of the lower Albina neighborhood" is a wild survey question to include given that moda center is why albina is like this to begin with
@kf @courtney yeah it definitely had some err... leading questions I would say. They desperately want us to let this slide I think.

@mossyfoot @courtney imagine if instead of funding the moda center they spent that money to revitalize lower albina instead and provide affordable housing for people to come back

but our milquetoast mayor could never

@kf @courtney No one wants to be "the politician who lost the #Blazers" so there's a real sense of desperation around the whole issue.
@mossyfoot @courtney he's already the mayor who opened then closed the shelter beds and shut down trimet lines so what else does wilson have left to lose, truly
@kf @courtney I think like many Portland mayors he incorrectly thinks he has a career in statewide politics after this. He doesn't though.
@kf @mossyfoot @courtney we have a "weak mayor" system, inspired by Ted Wheeler, so isn't this ultimately a council vote? Also trimet is not under him or the city, how did he shut down any lines (that's the board appointed by the governor?) Also isn't the county is supposed to be dealing with housing and human services?

@enobacon @mossyfoot @courtney I agree it's a council vote but he hasn't done any visible advocacy around the issues while simultaneously proposing ridiculous things like moda

his priorities make no sense

the shelter beds were 100% his doing though, even though part of the funding comes from the county

@kf @enobacon @courtney oh I disagree with almost everything he's done in office so far. Every dollar he spent on his overnight shelters might as well have been piled up in front of City Hall and burned. Same outcome.
@mossyfoot @kf @courtney the thing is, I don't think Rubio would have done better and Rene definitely not. Unfortunately we've chosen the most flawed way to count a ranked ballot, STV/IRV, so we're still basically running the business association's playbook, due to vote-splitting. This limits the quality of candidates, besides skewing the representation to the right.
@enobacon @kf @courtney I don't think it's really possible to be the mayor of #Portland. There's no way I would take that job. But while I'm glad he is not Renee as well, he's still prioritizing empty office buildings over people and the people that used to work in those buildings are largely never coming back. There has to be a whole new vision for downtown that replaces office space with housing but no one in charge has the cajones to admit this.
@mossyfoot @kf @courtney the Oregon state govt is not doing us any favors, and the dem's governor coronation process is not working. (I don't think we'll be better off with republicans in charge, but that's probably what we're going to get, thanks to dems blocking the STAR petition that would have made other parties viable.) The county and metro govt need to be more effective, and really there should probably not be any county level within the metro area, or they should be districts of it.

@courtney

I took it. But the survey reads like a push-poll designed by the Trail Blazersโ€™ new owner. It makes no attempt to verify that those who take it are Portland residents and not bots running on a server in Texas.

@courtney Survey completed with emphasis on accountability & minor derision for profits over people.
@courtney
That is a very unserious garbage survey.
Did the city seriously put this out?
Not sure taking it is helpful since every question appears to lead to "of course we should use tax payer $s to renovate the MODA center".
