Having a rare genetic mutation is so much fun. /s

This morning I had an appointment with my surgeon to talk about a probable surgery to reduce my risk of colon cancer due to precancerous polyps due to the mutation. I have more than 100 and so a total colectomy has been suggested to me.

On a support group of carriers of this mutation someone in the US shared her experience with me. She had 300+ polyps removed, kept her colon, and has a colonoscopy every year (it is the same frequency for me).

My quest is now, from πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦, trying to get a second opinion from 1 of the gastrointestinal docs at the University of Pennsylvania in #Philadelphia. πŸ’ͺ

Things are moving fast thanks to my hyperfocus! did some research and it seems that removing so many polyps is not standard in Canada. Probably because from what I’ve seen in my province MD are paid only for 2 or 3 polyps removal…/s (They are paid depending the number of acts they perform).

Anyway, I have read what it could be like to live without a colon, things that no one told me of course. πŸ™„ I am already dealing with too many things, I am going to keep my colon and having a colonoscopy every year. Plus I am going to try to loose some weight to help the entire situation.
