What do you use for bookmarks and web page archiving?

I'm looking for a straight forward, self-hosted, bookmarking tool.

#bookmark #achieve #selfhosted

@UkiahSmith linkding for actual bookmarking (things I _really_ thing are important). hister to record all my activity in general.

@a Linkding looks nice in the web view.

How do you add bookmarks when in a browser? manually add it to Linkging, or do they have an extension?

@UkiahSmith i think there is an extension, but I remember setting up some bookmark in javascript
@UkiahSmith Linkwarden
@prsfalken How easy was it to set up for self hosting? Docker?

@UkiahSmith Docker and I'd say it was easy.

It's behind a firewall, not exposed to internet.

@prsfalken Do you have your mobile behind the firewall too? So you can access the bookmarks from anywhere?
@UkiahSmith I'm using openvpn to access from (almost) everywhere and in the near future I'll use wireguard instead of openvpn.

@UkiahSmith for pages I really don't want to lose I import into Obsidian with the web clipper extension. Works well most of the time and leaves you with a markdown file if you grow tired of Obsidian at any point.

Syncthing to sync to devices.

@UkiahSmith I use Readeck. Straighforward, and browser add-on works great.

@Rutrapio Readeck looks nice. Does it have browser integration?

Can it archive pages from archive.today? I've had issue with those because they tend to be behind a "are you human" check.

@UkiahSmith they have browser add-on. Just a click to save.

For your other question, I can't say'

@UkiahSmith Just so you know, I've also tested Karakeep, but I prefer the UI of Readeck.

@Rutrapio I'm hesitant to use this as irs also a hosted product from a business.

I'm partly worried about a rug pull, but also they seem to have so many features and so much complexity.

@UkiahSmith I personally use wallabag, simply because it's a drop in install available from my web host and has a browser extension and android app that are simple to set up
