I just want to point out that temperatures over land (where we all live) have warmed over twice as fast as ocean surface temperatures. The latest update through 2025 is... not great 🥴

@ZLabe On a somewhat tangential note, this is a helpful visualization to track departures of the annual mean from the longer trend
@ZLabe
My planet is in this picture and I don't like it.
@ZLabe Having paved over significant areas around populated areas probably doesn’t help. Dark pavement doesn’t reflect solar energy: it absorbs it. And we push the snow off those areas in winter. Those paved areas continue to release heat in the evening after sunset, creating heat islands.
@ZLabe My family told me that summers now are much hotter than summers when they were children (1980).😞
@ZLabe and it's just accelerating, let's all go to Mars with Elon
@ZLabe really odd seeing a per decade annotation on a non-log scale plot. Terrifying data though
@pgiulan @ZLabe and somehow the death through global warming now and whats to come hardly ever take the headlines

@ZLabe What a glorious time I had as a child in the nineteen sixties!

#GlobalHeating

@ZLabe Isn't that related to the fact that ground heats faster than the same amount of water?
@ZLabe You’re right. We are a single terrestrial species living on a mostly water world dominated by huge numbers of other species.
