Mormonism was not among the religions that lost official recognition by the Defense Department on Friday. But the new list of recognized faiths includes a category for Christian denominations, and Mormonism was placed outside that category
Kudos to the Salt Lake Tribune for not going along with Trump/Hegseth’s “Department of War” bullshit, btw. They don’t even call it that with a disclaimer, the way lots of news orgs shamefully do
@jalefkowit Are they not sufficiently war-like for Kegbreath, and his Christofascists?
@jalefkowit well, if anyone is used to dealing with a religious legitimacy crisis with the federal government, it's the LDS folks. And this time, they can afford options like pitching in for the ballroom, though they may not be in the mood to, under the circumstances.
@jalefkowit Evangelical Protestants have a long history of viewing the LDS church as non-Christian (along with the Jehovah’s Witnesses and various other sects). Of course, many evangelicals also believe the Catholic Church is literally demonic.
@michaelgemar Thank you for explaining my own post back to me
@jalefkowit Sorry, I didn’t see that context. No offense was intended.
@jalefkowit Declaring that the Jehovah’s Witnesses are still Christian, while snubbing the Mormons, is just <chef’s kiss>
@flyingsaceur @jalefkowit I bet somehow South Park is to blame for that, lol
@XennyG @flyingsaceur @jalefkowit have South Park ever taken on the Jehovah's Witnesses?
@jalefkowit what's really strange as no JW would ever be a member of the military. It is against their beliefs (source: I'm an ex-JW), they actually would rather be sent to prison than take an oath to a government of man. Also part of the reason they do not say the pledge of allegiance.

@jalefkowit

Using the bible doesn't automatically mean "christian".

It's weird to place JW under christian considering they will straight up correct you if you call them a christian.

They most def consider themselves to be distinct and apart from christianity.

@jalefkowit interesting that the US is now defining Christianity. Very, er Nazi. They did this repeatedly. My late German mother remembered attending a ceremony where they had to declare as "God Believers", to deal with the Christ-as-Jew problem. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gottgl%C3%A4ubig
