People always be like "Oh Mr Billionaire tell us how you made your billions of dollars! What's your secret ingredient to success??" as if the truthful answer isn't "I convinced the government to pay me money to make a thing that was already free before, and then sold it back to the government (or to myself!) for a huge markup at taxpayer expense. This artificially inflated the value of my stock which I then used as collateral to secure enormous personal loans that I have no intention of ever paying back. Also I refuse to pay my workers and I don't pay a single cent in taxes."

It's crime. The secret ingredient is crime.

@Lana @wyatt_h_knott from the beginning of "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo.
@akamran @Lana @wyatt_h_knott I get a chuckle reading this, knowing I worked for a large global enterprise that was headquartered on a road named after Honoré de Balzac.
@Lana *meme "always has been"*
@Lana
Billionaires or wealthy people are never free from impurities.
@Lana I feel like that gives crime and criminals a bad name. We need a different name for what billionaires do. Maybe "evil"?

@Lana I read stories from the 1930's and often see "Behind every great fortune is a great crime."

(I'm going to have to be careful about saying "the 30's" soon...)

@Lana Yes! You can't make billions from selling stuff, only looting.
@Lana Not just crime. You need the willingness to commit crime and a lot of luck.
@Lana #tesla made their profit not by selling cars that were subsidized, but by selling #carboncredits to other companies affected by #greentaxes meanwhile video of a teslas on fire is fairly censored. So we keep burning coal bc we pay #greentaxes essentially directly to X Æ A-12's parent...
@Lana that's the long (US?) version, the short (european?) version is: "I inherited."
@gregoa_ to be fair we have that here too though maybe not quite so pronounced
@Lana thought so, thanks for the confirmation :)
still I found the difference in emphasis interesting.
@Lana and you have to be already rich to start with because most of your crime ideas won't work.

@Lana

This is why billionaires say doubling their taxes won't make a difference.

Double nothing is still nothing.

@Lana just got to get big enough quick enough to be too big to jail.
