@indonische @Tutanota that account seems to post AI generated content, Claude "tips and tricks", and (according to community notes) reposts other people's threads but in all caps. in that case, looks like they're copying this thread: https://xcancel.com/hasantoxr/status/2045522876925919531
and this is the BREAKING study from 2021 https://www.scss.tcd.ie/doug.leith/apple_google.pdf
thanks for the elaboration, I'm just dissatisfied tuta to put the snapshot but not include the real link I need to spend few secs to browser.
@Tutanota The one and only true solution is:
Sell your Google phone if it isn’t a Pixel. Then get yourself a Google Pixel phone. Install #grapheneos and configure it. Live happily ever after with a lot more security and privacy …
You’re welcome. 😃
@AndyGER @Tutanota There are other options. Fairphone with e/OS, a Linux-based OS, or LineageOS. Other phones with Lineage, too. grapheneOS is the most secure android solution, but if you can get a Linux phone thats just as good.
Also reminder that Motorola is partnering with gOS, so that'll become an option too.
regarding fairphone. i am annoyed that my perfectly working fair phone 3 reaches EOL soon and therefore e/os also drops support the next year.
i haven't ever replaced anything because nothing did break. so the reason to throw away the phone in near future is solely software and lacking security updates
@utf_7 @Tutanota you could try lineageOS.
Unlike the official Fairphone firmware, which ends support in August 2026, LineageOS updates depend entirely on the voluntary work of the community maintainer, currently teamb58.
Support typically ends only if the maintainer stops updating the device or if hardware limitations prevent porting newer Android versions. Given the device's popularity in the custom ROM community, support is expected to continue well beyond the official August 2026 cutoff.
Please explain why firefox is recommended as a privacy respecting browser along side LibreWolf.
Without a settings marathon Firefox does not respect user privacy.
LibreWolf has done a good job in regard to stopping Telemetry and such extras as app normandy and merino. Merino refers to fleecing users, Normandy to invasive practices.
*** 1/ WiFi Scanning You turned WiFi off. Android kept it scanning. Google tracks your location through nearby networks even when the toggle is off. Settings > Location > Location Services > WiFi Scanning > Off. Samsung adds an extra step under Improve Accuracy. *** 2/ Bluetooth Scanning Same situation. Samsung's own settings page says it plainly: connects to nearby devices even while Bluetooth is turned off. Settings > Location > Location Services > Bluetooth Scanning > Off. *** 3/ Delete Your Advertising…
@Tutanota This is a comment on the page you're linking to and not the image you attached.
There is a huge difference between de-Googling your general web use and your phone though, which I think needs more attention. I can't pay my bills or use a credit card for online purchases without a phone anymore, sadly. So the only option I have if I want to properly de-Google my phone is to switch to iOS. I'm not prepared to do that (yet) since I feel I'll just switch from one evil to another. So therefore I'm currently using GrapheneOS since that at least limits my exposure to Google somewhat while still working with the requirements ALL banks in my country set in regards to identification. These are the only possible alternatives for A LOT of people. And the EU do not seem to care to do something about that whatsoever, they rather seem to work towards making us all even more locked in to iOS and Google Play Services.
microG is a small and shaky bandaid that solidifies your dependency of Google way more than GrapheneOS in itself does with a one-time purchase of hardware (how you even can call the use of microG 'de-Googling' is baffling to me), and only works with banking apps in a _very few_ select countries, for now. For a lot of countries it's a complete non-starter.
I'm sorry, but you need to do more research for these "guides", or specifically mention that you're only targeting your German audience, where I guess things work differently?
If you want to properly deGoogle your phone, you need to use iOS. That's already the reality in plenty of European countries today. And it sucks. We're not doing anyone any favours pretending any of these other ones are a truly viable solution _if deGoogling is your actual goal_. They COULD BE one day, provided that the EU starts caring and thinking about the right things. So _that's_ where we should focus our energy, and stop pretending.
@Tutanota Does it really matter at this point?
If your phone has been sending google data every 4.5 mins for years all switching it off is gonna do is save google a few mb's.....they already know you and switching it off is just another data point for them to better fuck you in the next update.
