New legislation could spell the end for the creative open-source community that has grown around 3D printing. From medical equipment to cat toys, we can't let innovation be stifled by state mandated censorware. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/04/print-blocking-anti-consumer-permission-print-part-1
Print Blocking is Anti-Consumer - Permission to Print Part 1

When legislators give companies an excuse to write untouchable code, it’s a disaster for everyone. This time, 3D printers are in the crosshairs across a growing number of states. Even if you’ve never used one, you’ve benefited from the open commons these devices have created—which is now under threat. We need to roundly reject these onerous restraints on creation.

This week's comic on the authoritarian takeover of US media

IT'S FRIDAY ONCE AGAIN
That’s one hell of a cover…

If there’s a cautionary tale here, don’t take your democracy for granted. Review your laws and standards. Don’t rely on “norms”. We need to harden democracies against this kind of hacking.

“The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.” - Thomas Paine (3/3)

What is noticed is resistance. I see it everywhere. Sometimes it’s seems just a sprinkle (Federal court wins), and others like a splash (massive NoKings turnout).

These things matter and while it may seem dark, and possibly too late in many respects, there is every opportunity to turn around. I’d even suggest a slight hope there may be the will to make the structural changes needed to prevent this in the future. (2/3)

As a self-described citizen of the world, and local citizen to the USA, I’d like to share a message to all, especially those of the non-U.S. persuasion.

The last several years have been painful for many of us here in the USA. Some bear silently, others more loudly.

I noticed something today, which may be obvious to the outside, but perhaps not so much in the day-to-day cacophony. (1/3)
