@thisismissem @aussocialadmin There is no petition at the link provided. There is a letter asking people to sign a petition. It is full of links to the same site, all of which have extremely long, opaque URI parameters. As does the link in your toot.

Where is the actual petition and how does one sign it?

You can see why it might cause hesitation...

Also, the petition itself has this below the input fields: "By supporting this campaign you give permission for Equality Australia to contact you." That should be a checkbox, defaulting to unchecked.

So the petition gets one less signature while I go write my own letter.

@kauer mate you could just support this person being recognised as a person and unsubscribe for anything else that gets sent. yeah the lack of an opt in is not great, but it's a fuck tonne better than (legally) not existing @futzle @thisismissem @aussocialadmin

@kauer @warkolm @futzle @aussocialadmin sure, that works if you wanna contact your MP directly — I personally don't have an MP as I don't live in Australia; that Barbara is just my mum who sent me the link (she's in Australia & loves two trans people & is a big ally). Was trying to provide one link with the explainer + petition link. Updated to include the direct petition link.

@kauer @thisismissem @aussocialadmin The long params in the links are because this comes from an email ("Dear Barbara") and they're tracking which recipients follow which links. This will mess up their analytics a bit but it's safe.
