California Scrub Jay (perched fittingly on scrub). I have yet to meet a jay I haven't just adored. The rarity of the scrub jay this far north made meeting them quite a treat (thanks to a tip from @kcscrimshaw). They stayed true to the Jay code- vocal, and somehow simultaneously bossy and sweet.
