I'd seen this tree leaning over the water many times from the other side, up on dry land, and never noticed the shelf fungi until I was wading up the creek to attack some reed canary grass (aggressively invasive here) with my brush and forestry scythe. More than anything else in my life, my hobby of snapping photos has taught me the value of new perspectives.
