yeah, the demise of normal journalism is more recent (but started long before AI), but OTOH it would be their job to write about society-wide implications for AI, pestering politicians about it etc - which IMO is more important than what tech press writes about the latest product

@eniko IMO it's been the standard in the normal press too. Breathlessly repeating claims about cryptocurrency/blockchain/NFTs. Before that there was the company that claimed to be developing room-wide wireless charging through the magic of resonance, the company that was fixing power distribution because it was apparently woefully inefficient (failure to understand the difference between real and apparent power?). Lots of people claiming perpetual motion machines. Someone who claimed to have solved division by zero with "nullity". Theranos.

@eniko They really think they'll still get referral traffic when Google just digests their content into a chat bubble. I'm already seeing my app landing pages scraped and summarized, leading to zero App Store click-throughs. They're basically writing their own eulogies.

@eniko Goes to show how broken jounalism is these days. The people that work at these places are deathly afraid of taking a stand or expressing an opinion, for fear of being labelled "biased". I don't get why that's such a bad thing, honestly.

@eniko Do you mean the same journalists that jumped to "pivot to video" a decade ago, and gleefully publish the (cleaned up) every utterance of the guy who calls them the Enemy of the People? Of course they don't see the threat. They only see what the chatbot tells them to see...
