@arstechnica I am disinclined to assume that Sheriff and whoever set that bond have only misbehaved in such a fashion once.

It is almost a certainty that the county's insurer paid the settlement, which means the county's premiums will go up, if they're not cancelled outright, and everyone in the county loses as their taxes pay for these shenanigans.
