1:64-scale car no. 109: took a pause after finishing my last one to get my Volvos (nos. 104-107) off to print, but now I'm back on the family bus beat with this big boy. I remember going with my dad a few times to check out EuroVans when they first came out. He really liked them, but I suspect they were out of our price range, given that they cost about 50% more than the Saturn he ended up getting in ’94... #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
Got a good start into three dimensions today. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
This has to be close to a record for how quickly I've been able to complete an outer body shell, having just started in three dimensions yesterday. There is a catch, though—like last time, the sliding door will be added later, towards the end of the entire modeling process. Nevertheless, a quick bit of work, and while it is essentially a big box, there's more complexity in the details than you'd expect! #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
Seats for seven, to go. Oddly, this is the second time I've modeled a German car with rear-facing seats that share the headrests of the seats behind/in front of them. As @dan might be able to guess, the other one was a Mercedes S124 E320 wagon. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
It's my *third* German car with rear-facing seats overall, however—there's also the Zündapp Janus! That one just doesn't have any headrests.
Body is completely done, and I got the wheels done, too. All that's left are the dash and steering wheel, and I'm debating whether or not to have the table raised between the second and third rows. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
Two ’90s minivans done, two to go. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
@autonerdery i thought Ford is bigger than Transporter 🤔 Maybe because Ford here is rare bird and VW vans is every 8 car
@mcSlibinas I was surprised by how close in size they are, too! The Ford is a bit longer, but the VW is taller.
@autonerdery they both create wrong impressions, Ford pretends to be bigger, while VW tries to hide in crowd 😉
@mcSlibinas @autonerdery Here in the US the Fords used to outnumber the VWs 8 to 1. Now all the Fords are long dead but I still see the occasional ‘90s VW van.
@autonerdery @dan Nice work !
I just saw one passing by, same green color but with grey bumpers.
@autonerdery Nice! We had the long wheelbase US-style Winnebago Camper for many years. I wish I had one of those in 1:87 scale. Some day I will have to figure out how you do your magic.
